A truckload freight broker connects shippers with carriers for full truckload (FTL) and less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments — handling carrier sourcing, rate negotiation, load booking, and shipment tracking. The broker's value is access to a large pre-vetted carrier network, which gives shippers more capacity options and more competitive rates than sourcing carriers directly, combined with a single point of accountability for every load.
Most shippers who call Total Connection for truckload freight aren't looking for a new TMS platform or a digital freight marketplace. They're looking for someone to pick up the phone, understand their freight, and get it moving — without having to manage the carrier relationship themselves.
That's what we do. One call. One account manager. One point of contact from the time you tell us what needs to move to the time it's confirmed delivered.
We have access to over 100,000 pre-vetted carriers across the US and Canada — covering every freight mode, every lane, and every cargo type including hazmat, temperature-controlled, flatbed, and oversized. We're licensed, bonded, and insured. And we're available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — because freight doesn't stop moving on weekends and neither do we.
Dedicated trailer capacity for your freight — no sharing, direct to destination. The right choice for large shipments, time-sensitive deliveries, and freight requiring dedicated space for safety or security reasons.
Cost-effective shipping for smaller loads that don't fill a full trailer. You pay for the space you use. We access the LTL carrier network and manage the pickup, transit, and delivery coordination.
Open deck solutions for oversized, irregularly shaped, or heavy freight that can't be enclosed — construction materials, steel, machinery, and equipment. Flatbed, step deck, double drop, and multi-axle options.
Temperature-controlled trucking for food, pharmaceuticals, and temperature-sensitive chemicals. Reefer and heated trailer options with strict temperature maintenance throughout transit.
Certified hazmat carriers for DOT-regulated dangerous goods — flammable liquids, corrosives, toxic substances, and other hazardous materials. Full compliance management, documentation, and carrier vetting.
US-Canada and US-Mexico cross-border trucking with customs coordination, bilingual support, and border-crossing compliance. One provider for the full cross-border move.
Regulated freight — hazmat, temperature-sensitive, and specialized commodity types — handled by carriers with the right certifications and a broker who manages the compliance. Not a specialty we bolt on. A core capability we've built around.
Regular freight programs and one-off moves. Consistent capacity on recurring lanes and on-demand sourcing when volume spikes or regular carriers fall through. 24/7 availability for operations that don't stop at 5pm.
US-Canada and US-Mexico freight with the border compliance, documentation, and customs coordination that cross-border moves require. One provider managing the full move — not a domestic broker who stops at the border and hands off to someone else.
100,000+ carriers isn't a number we use for marketing. It's the reason we can cover difficult lanes, find capacity when spot markets tighten, and always have a backup when a primary carrier falls through. Smaller networks run out of options when you need them most.
Most general freight brokers treat hazmat as a special case. For Total Connection it's core — because our business started in liquid bulk chemical logistics and regulated freight is what we've always done. Our hazmat truckload capability is built on 30 years of chemical freight experience, not bolted on as an add-on service.
When you have a freight problem at 9pm on a Friday, you reach a person who can actually do something about it. Not a voicemail. Not an answering service that takes a message for Monday morning. A live team member who can source a carrier, book a load, and have a solution confirmed before you go to sleep.
The same account manager who books your load monitors it through delivery. If something changes in transit — a breakdown, a delay, a delivery issue — you hear from us before you've started wondering what happened.
We quote what you pay. No fuel surcharges added after the fact. No accessorial charges that weren't in the original quote. If a charge applies to your shipment you see it upfront.
A freight broker is a licensed intermediary that connects shippers with carriers — sourcing capacity, negotiating rates, and managing the logistics of a shipment without physically transporting the freight. A carrier owns and operates the trucks that move the freight. Using a broker like Total Connection gives shippers access to a much larger carrier pool than they could maintain directly, along with the compliance management and operational support that comes with an experienced logistics provider.
FTL is generally the right choice when your shipment exceeds 10,000 to 15,000 pounds, fills more than half a standard 53-foot trailer, requires dedicated space for safety or security reasons, or has a time-sensitive delivery where direct transit is critical. LTL makes sense for smaller shipments that don't justify a full trailer — typically under 10,000 pounds and less than 10 to 12 pallets. Total Connection can review your freight details and recommend the most cost-effective option.
For most standard lanes we can source and confirm a carrier within hours of your request. For time-critical or emergency loads our team is set up to move fast — 24/7. We maintain priority carrier relationships specifically for urgent freight and our network depth means we almost always have options even when spot markets are tight.
Yes — and this is one of our genuine strengths. Our carrier network includes certified hazmat carriers trained to move DOT-regulated materials safely and in compliance with 49 CFR requirements. We manage classification, documentation, placarding, and carrier certification as part of every hazmat truckload shipment. Regulated freight is not a specialty we occasionally handle — it's core to what we do.
We cover all 48 contiguous US states and Canada for both FTL and LTL freight. For cross-border freight we cover US-Canada and US-Mexico lanes with full customs and border compliance coordination. We have active carrier relationships on all major freight corridors and strong lane coverage in the chemical, industrial, and agricultural freight markets where our client base is concentrated.
In the event of cargo damage we assist with the claims process — documenting the damage, filing the claim with the carrier, and following up through resolution. Carriers are liable for cargo damage under the Carmack Amendment to the extent of their negligence, subject to the terms of the bill of lading and any declared value or released value provisions. We recommend reviewing cargo insurance options for high-value shipments before they move — prevention is better than claims management.
