What flatbed and heavy haul freight involves
Open-deck freight is loaded by crane or forklift from the side or top and secured with chains, straps and blocking. Legal loads move on standard flatbeds and step decks; anything over 8 ft 6 in wide, 13 ft 6 in tall or 80,000 lb gross needs specialized trailers, permits and often escorts.
Total Connection selects the trailer from verified dimensions and weight, then handles securement specs, tarping, permits and escorts.
Trailer types
Flatbed
48 ft and 53 ft decks for steel, pipe, lumber, crated machinery and palletized industrial freight up to about 48,000 lb.
Step deck
Lower rear deck for taller cargo, up to roughly 10 ft of load height.
Double drop and RGN
Well trailers for tall and heavy machinery, with removable goosenecks for drive-on loading.
Multi-axle and extendable
Superloads and long pieces such as vessels, reels and structural steel.
How an oversize load is planned
Measure
Dimensions, weight and center of gravity verified before the trailer is assigned.

State permits, route surveys and travel-time restrictions secured.
Escorts
Pilot cars and police escorts arranged where the dimensions require them.

What are the legal load limits?
In most states 8 ft 6 in wide, 13 ft 6 in tall, 53 ft long and 80,000 lb gross vehicle weight. Loads beyond those limits need permits.
Do you arrange permits and escorts?
Yes. Permits, route surveys, pilot cars and police escorts are handled by our project team for every oversize load.
Can you move a piece over 100,000 lb?
Yes. Multi-axle configurations and engineered superload permits are arranged; a recent program moved reels up to 100,000 lb daily.
Is tarping included?
Tarping is specified per load and quoted upfront so freight that needs weather protection gets it.
